Join David on this outing to the West Perth Wetlands. The second half of August puts us smack dab in the middle of shorebird migration and we can expect species such as Semipalmated Plover, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, possible Baird’s Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher (rare), Wilson’s Snipe.

Other waders that have been seen over the years include Red Knot, Hudsonian Godwit, Marbled Godwit and Sanderling.

Swallows should be massing for migration, various sparrows are present, Bobolinks are sometimes seen on migration and various warblers and vireos may be present. One year we had a very cooperative American Bittern and Sora is usually present but frustratingly difficult to find.

Wood Ducks breed at this location and families should be on display.

Come and hone your shorebird ID skills. Bring a scope if you have one.

Meet at the SpruceHaven (at the red barn) and we will car pool from there.Picture of a pectoral sandpiper bird
