Birding from the Boardwalk at Huron Natural Area
The Huron Natural Area boardwalk (near Strasburg Rd.) has become a wonderful spot to observe birds, often at close range. This access point may be unfamiliar to many. A 400 metre (one way) walk on a well maintained stone chip community trail brings you to the boardwalk. The trail involves a long gentle climb at the beginning and a slight decline at the destination. If you have a light stool or chair you might consider bringing it along. There will be a good opportunity to see more than a dozen bird species at this location in a 30 minute span. We will stand (or sit) on the boardwalk, observing the avian action. Hand feeding of chickadees and nuthatches is always a rewarding experience. Dress warmly and bring binoculars and possibly a camera. Attendees are free to return to their cars when they wish.
Location: in the north west corner of Huron Heights Secondary School parking lot off Strasburg Rd. Kitchener.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour (or longer if you wish to stay, or wish to explore the trails)
No washrooms available nearby
Prior registration is not required.
