Peregrine Falcon Fledge Watch Training

Monday, July 9, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Peregrine Nest Box
Peregrine Nest Box

Attention all falcon fans!

Our K-W peregrine falcons (species of special concern) need your assistance this month. The hatchlings will soon be ready to fledge and in all probability will come to ground where they are helpless. That's where we come in. The more eyes we have on the sky, the better we'll be able to assist them when they come down.

Come to the fledge watch training session on Monday, July 9 at 7 P.M. in the parking lot on King St. at Green St. (across from Grand River Hospital). You'll learn what to do when a grounding occurs, whom to contact for assistance and what observations to pass on to the fledge watch team.

If you can't attend the training session, just show up anytime between dawn and dusk from July 10 to July 28. You can watch and report on the "falcon follies" as these young aerial acrobats spread their wings and learn the intricacies of flying fast and free. Stay for an hour or as long as you like. Bring your cell phone, binoculars, scope if you have one, refreshments, lawn chair and sunscreen. Keep your eyes on the CTV nestbox erected in 2015 by Waterloo Region Nature. Viewing points are the parking lot and the hospital lawn near the parking garage. Washrooms available at the hospital. Dashboard notices from the Canadian Peregrine Foundation will be available to allow free parking in the King/Green lot.

Contact Dale Ingrey, ingreyda@hotmail.com, phone 519-884-3667 for more information or if you would like to be added to the fledge watch e mail list.
