Moth night
Friday, May 31 @ 8:45 pm - 11:00 pm
It’s moth night! Come out Friday evening to see moths in their active state flying around the lights and alighting, and/or come in the morning to examine resting moths when they are easier to study and photograph. This is part one of a two-part event. (Part two is Saturday morning).
On Friday night we will leave light traps out overnight. We will record the species and identification data in iNaturalist. If you wish, you can download this app ahead of time and also record your sightings. Our guide Alan Macnaughton will provide instructions.
Come out early Saturday morning to explore the traps, with moths resting on egg cartons in the trap.
Please park along the Spruce Have side of the road on the grass. Walk down the sloped driveway to meet at the big red barn, about 100 m north of the house. Bring a flashlight and bug spray and if, you are interested, a phone or camera to take pictures.
This event is suitable for all ages.
