Mill Race Trail, St. Jacobs
Sunday, October 25, 2020 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am
COVID-19 has presented many challenges, not the least of which is our ability to conduct outings safely and in a manner that can be enjoyed by all participants. Social distancing is a paramount concern, of course, and that reality alone places restrictions on the number of members who can join together for an outing.
David Gascoigne proposes a bird walk with a limit of six members including himself and Miriam who acts as our photographer, meaning that four others could join in. People who live together could be considered one “unit” for purposes of social distancing so the limit of four participants is flexible. The same walk will be offered five times in a week, on a first come first served basis for each date. Prior registration is required and if you have a close friend or family member who is not a member of the club they would be welcome to take part, subject to usual liability waivers of course.
These outings are predicated on safety measures and social distance restrictions for COVID-19 not becoming more dire. If conditions change the decision to hold the walks may need to be revisited.
Dates: Sunday 25 October, Monday 26 October, Tuesday 27 October, Wednesday 28 October, Thursday 29 October. (Subject to cancellation due to rain).
Time: 8:30 am.
Location: Meet at the parking area on Three Bridges Road, near the bridge over the Conestogo River.

Description: The Mill Race Trail is an easy walk, on flat level ground. There is an excellent chance to have Black-capped Chickadees feed from the hand, and sometimes White-breasted Nuthatches are equally bold. Five species of woodpecker are possible, with Downy and Red-bellied being the most likely. Dark-eyed Juncos and American Tree Sparrows should have arrived by the end of October, and there may be a few lingering Rusty Blackbirds. Waterfowl will be present and there is always a chance to see Muskrat (likely) and Beaver. Blue Jays and Northern Cardinals will no doubt keep us company and over the years the Mill Race has produced many agreeable surprises.
Prior registration is required. Contact David to register.
