Description: The Linear Trail is an easy walk, for the most part on flat level ground. We will spend about an hour and a half on the Linear Trail and then move over to Riverside Park for an hour or so. Between the two sites we have excellent possibilities for a wide variety of passerines, including the chance to have chickadees and nuthatches feed from your hand, and close up looks at a number of species. Carolina Wren has been sighted on recent visits. Bald Eagle is a distinct possibility along the Linear Trail, with a variety of ducks, gulls, and perhaps a kingfisher, cormorants, swans and raptors. Migrants are arriving earlier in recent years so it’s not out of the question that Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles may show up, even a very early Killdeer. Sometimes we spot White-tailed Deer and a Muskrat or two.
Dress according to the weather, bring your binoculars, snacks if you think you need them, and lots of enthusiasm. Washrooms are not available.
Registration is required. Non-members are welcome. All participants will need to sign a waiver and risk acknowledgement for insurance purposes.
