Nature in the City: Kitchener’s Urban Forest

Wednesday, October 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Huron Natural Area Forest

Waterloo Region Nature / Kitchener Natural Areas Program / Kitchener Public Library  -  Nature in the City

Speaker: David Schmitt

Topic: Kitchener's Urban Forest

Urban forests are forests for people. They are dynamic green infrastructure that provides cities with environmental, economic and social benefits. Kitchener’s Strategic Plan (2015-2018) laid the groundwork to develop a sustainable urban forest program, including creating a long-term urban forest strategy for the private and public urban forest. This talk introduces Kitchener’s urban forest through discussion about the city’s tree canopy, street & park trees, natural areas, and the issues and challenges facing the urban forest, and how citizens can help
