COVID has presented many challenges, not the least of which is our ability to conduct outings safely and in a manner that can be enjoyed by all participants. Social distancing is a paramount concern, of course, and that reality alone places restrictions on the number of members who can join together for an outing.
Fraser Gibson proposes a walk to learn about the ferns in Stamm Woodlot with a limit of seven members including himself meaning that 6 others could join in.
The same walk will be offered two times, on a first come first served basis for each date. Prior registration is required and if you have a close friend or family member who is not a member of the club they would be welcome to take part, subject to usual liability waivers.
Stamm Woodlot, Waterloo
Date: Tuesday October 6, 2020
Time: 9:30 am
Location: Meet at the intersection of Pinery Trail and Springwater Drive, Waterloo
Stamm Woodlot is a beautiful hardwood sugar bush on Waterloo’s northern border. Most of our route is a wide wood-chipped trail over gently rolling terrain. One short section is a wide dirt path. The focus of the outing will be learning to identify some of Waterloo Region’s fern species. This mature forest is my favourite bush for ferns in the Region. We should be able to find about 10 species on the property, some uncommon in the area. Stamm is also a great natural area, suitable for social distance walks at another time.
No washrooms available.
Prior registration is required. Please contact Fraser by email to register.
