Experiences of a Young Ecologist
The Speaker:
Twenty-two year old Malavika Madhavan is a recent graduate from a Master in Ecology from Radboud University in the Netherlands. Coming from a big city in India, She was always seeking ways to explore and understand the natural world around us. She is keen to share some of the interesting things she discovered through her studies.
The presentation: Through her studies she has done small projects and internships on leopards, crocodiles, and her more recent and profound interest – birds. She will share her experiences as a budding ecologist, and her research journey that began with a population study of Northern Wheatears. To conclude she will give a short presentation on her master thesis, which was on the song complexity of the Lined Seedeater (a South American passerine whose ecology we are only now uncovering). Next, she plans to do a PhD specialising in owl acoustics and communication.
