Earth Day Cleanup

Thursday, April 22

Celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up your neighbourhood.

(Remember to stay masked and physically distanced).

The City of Kitchener has useful “how to” details here: https://www.kitchener.ca/en/parks-and-trails/plogging-in-kitchener.aspx They include safety protocols and tips. However, Kitchener is not organizing a pick-up this year, due to Covid. You need to provide your own bags, gloves etc., but the city will pick up piles of garbage if you notify them.  519 741 2345 info@kitchener.ca. Call the same number to report unmanageable heaps of garbage e.g. disused homeless camps.
The City of Waterloo also cancelled their Earth Day community cleanup because of Covid restrictions. Waterloo community pick-up collection is done by the Region. Email them to collect bags (https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/regional-government/contact-us.aspx
519 575 4400), as their phone lines tend to be overwhelmed.
Remember to separate clean plastic and cans for recycling and place in a blue-bin.
If you do not exceed the 4-bag domestic garbage limit, you could just take the bags home for domestic waste collection.
When you finish your clean-up, please email Roger Suffling a “selfie” together with your garbage bags of litter  (rcsuffli@uwaterloo.ca). And please count the number of dog-poop bags collected, including that total in your email. We shall be posting the snap-shots on the WRN Facebook page and encouraging local media to use them in their Earth-day coverage.
