Carden Alvar Outing

Sunday, May 18 – Monday, May 19

Carden Alvar Natural Area (Lake Simcoe region)

Registration is now open!

A joint outing to the Nationally Significant Carden Alvar with the Peterborough Field Naturalists will take place on the Victoria Day weekend on Sunday May 18 (all day) and Monday May 19, 2025 (7:30 am – noon).

Registrations for this outing are now open and each Club will have 15 spaces allotted to it. The goal will be to have 30 participants in 2 groups with 2 Guides per group. A Waiting List for each Club will be established in the event that one Club is unable to fill its allocation or if there are cancellations, in order to reach the 30 person target.

The outing will commence at 7:30 AM on May 18th and will pause for a midday and a dinner break. There will be an evening walk on the 18th. The outing will re-commence on the 19th with a morning excursion, wrapping up by noon. The outing on the 19th is strictly voluntary, and for those who do NOT wish to attend on the 19th, they may still sign up for the 18th and they will be able to reserve their place for the outing.

A Dinner is planned for both groups prior to the 18th evening walk and a birding checklist will be provided to tally up the day’s total to date.

It is anticipated that sightings could possibly total 100 species of birds on this trip, in addition to Spring butterflies and flowers that the Carden Alvar is known for.

Let Stewart know if you have any questions. He and our other experienced and friendly guides look forward to seeing you at this exciting event.
Registration is required. To register, please email Stewart DIRECTLY… do NOT register online!

Kindly indicate in your email what your plans are for both days. Will you be able to participate in all excursions? Will you be able to join the group for dinner on the 18th, etc.?

For those planning to stay overnight, accommodations can be had at Balsam Lake Provincial Park (Camping), Lake Dalrymple Resort (Housekeeping Cottages), or the Saucy Willow Inn (more upscale accommodations).

Attendees are responsible for their own expenses for this outing. Non-members are welcome to attend. All attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver for insurance purposes.
